Hurricane Isaac August 29, 2012

Hurricane Isaac caused a lot of people a lot of worry all along the Gulf Coast from Texas to Florida. He eventually came ashore around New Orleans as a Category 1 storm, but his wind and waves were felt in every state. Perdido Key was no exception.

The Perdido Key Sailing Club paid close attention to the weather advisories. We brought all of our smaller boats in out of the water and we took our 30' Tartan - the Magic Monica - into safer waters behind Pirates' Cove. The storm was not as bad as what hit Louisiana and Mississippi and we had no damage to any of our member boats although we did have a few good stories about moving the boats and going to get the boats like Noah sailing the Wind Rider in tropical storm force winds and heavy seas. I ended up at the FloraBama Yacht Club although I was supposed to meet Jason and Carlos at Hub's Stacey's Landing but I could not sail against the wind (tropical storm force winds and 'Perfect Storm'-size waves).

Here are some shots of us bringing the Magic Monica back from behind Pirates' Cove. Thanks to McKean, Carlos and Jamie for sailing her back (I drove the truck). Also, many thanks to McKean, Jason, Monica and Jamie for helping tie her up to an oak tree, a pine tree and three anchors. There are two videos uploaded here, too. Its good to be back on the water.

Summer Sailing 2012

Perdido Key Sailors - How's the water and wind treating you? We have had a great summer so far. We have pulled the Magic Monica out of the water, cleaned her hull, fixed her leaks (I was tired of pumping the bilge every other day), and painted her below and above the waterline (although we are going to have to redo the deck). Patti's Boat Storage was a great place for us to do this and the staff there was awesome - Thanks Patti's Boat Storage! If you are out on the water around Perdido Key this summer, holler at us.
